GRADE II COTSWOLD PARTY BARN
We were appointed to undertake the interior design and construction management of this beautiful Grade II Cotswold barn in the grounds of our client’s country estate.
A completely new traditional oak roof structure of trusses and purlins was manufactured on site and dressed with traditional stone Cotswold slates. The interior Cotswold stone walls were fully repointed with lime mortar and underfloor heating installed under a polished concrete floor along with blue bricks reclaimed from the site. Crittall screens were installed at the original entrances to the barn, and a WC was created from an old adjoining wood shed, with a vanity made from timber reclaimed from the original barn.
Having renovated the structure and given it its next century of life, we wanted to reflect the huge scale and beautiful proportions of the barn in the scale of the furniture, artwork and lighting acquired for it, whilst at the same time allowing the space to remain uncluttered. The resulting space is highly flexible and has already been used for pre-wedding drinks for a hundred guests and a 60th wedding anniversary dinner for forty.
